Like the Brahma, the Ongole is a breed derived from the domestic Zebu, a type of cattle native to India. They are easily identified by their long, drooping ears, rearward facing horns and large shoulder hump.
History
The Ongole Cow is prized for its strength and hardiness, and is said to be highly disease resistant. It is also renowned for its ability to survive in temperatures that other cattle find too hot. These cows are named for the city where the breed originated. It is one of the heaviest cow breeds, and is the progenitor of the American Brahma breed of cow.
