A small owl species endemic to the woods of North America, Mexico, and Canada, the eastern screech owl is made up of five different subspecies. They can often be found in urban areas, and have adapted well to living alongside humans. Scientific Name: Megascops asio
History:
The eastern screen owl is a heavily populated species, and has been classified as least concern by the IUCN. In fact, the eastern screech owl has benefited from human development, as farms and other man-made open grasslands allow them to hunt more effectively. Despite its name, the eastern screech owl doesn’t actually screech. Instead, it makes a calm, trembling hoot.
