History:
Studied extensively for their knowledge and learning capabilities, orangutans have showed an ability to master sophisticated tools, solve puzzles, and communicate through a basic form of sign language. Some researchers even believe different populations of wild orangutans have distinct cultures. Unfortunately, all types of orangutan are endangered, and the Sumatran species is critically endangered, mainly due to a loss of their habitat through deforestation.
