History
Sharks are considered Threatened because of the many challenges they face in the wild. Although data show they are not the vicious killers of Hollywood fame, old prejudices remain. Their fins and teeth are prized and fetch hefty sums even though they are protected in many areas. Another challenge faced by these important predators is sensationalism in the media whenever a shark attack occurs. Although humans are far more dangerous to sharks than vice versa, the occasional shark attack gains international attention and harms the Great White’s image.
