History:
The Fennec Fox gets its name from the Berber word “fanak”, which means “fox”. This desert-dwelling mammal is recognized by its disproportionately large ears, which are the largest of all foxes in relation to their body size. The ears are full of blood vessels, which helps them regulate their body temperature in the hot desert environment. They’re also very sensitive, and help the fox to hear prey underground.
The Fennec Fox is a species of “Least Concern” meaning it is not under immediate threat of extinction, though its population must still be observed to ensure that it does not decline due to overhunting or other potential threats.
