Warthogs are members of the pig family known for their knobby faces and formidable tusks. They live in sub-Saharan Africa in savannah habitats, traveling in groups that are called “sounders”.
History:
Today there are two species of Warthog recognized, the Common Warthog and the Desert Warthog. Both species are plentiful and are currently listed as “Least Concern” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. However, a subspecies of the Desert Warthog called the Cape Warthog went extinct in the late 1800s.
